Penelope - Month 4

OK, another big gap … sorry. Penny is just all that much cuter now - with lots of new moves. I see younger babies and fell like it was a lifetime ago that she looked like that, and did those things - like sleeping on our chests - she used to love that, now she won’t have anything to do with it. On to bigger and better things! She is back in a vocal phase (they seem to come and go) - in the past couple days she has been very into her ‘mmmmmmm’’s, and generally getting louder and more emphatic with whatever she wants to say, and exploring a syllable up and down her range. She giggled (or cackled as Alex calls it) a couple times, but hasn’t been seemed too interested in doing it much now. Her smiles melt my heart though, especially first thing in the morning when she see’s me. Almost makes me forget how many times I was up during the night. Almost.

Her favorite thing now is standing up. She can hold her weight for quite a while, all she needs is a little help balancing. She will put up quite a fuss at times and all she wants to do is stand. She likes to walk too, with a little help of course, but she will pick up a foot and put it back down. She also seems interested in crawling, inchworming her way along when she is on her tummy. And turning herself around on her playmat or in her crib. She just wants to move! I think she is quite capable of rolling from her back to her tummy, she goes right over to the side, and has gone all the way over a couple times, but she just doesn’t love being on her tummy, she she doesn’t do it often.

It is wonderful watching her start to explore her toys - she still loves staring at flower and at mirrors, but she is now much more interested in manipulating things that move (and chewing on them of course). She uses her feet to play with toys as well - my little monkey. Her favorite object is an old tea towel though - she hugs it, and plays with it, and chews it to pieces (unless she is wearing a dress which she can pull up and chew).

Last night was her first night in her crib - she had been turning over and moving so much in her bassinet it seemed time to let her try out a little more space. She did well I suppose, didn’t wake up any more then usual, although not any less. We are working on it though.
